Edinburgh - Garden Room and Garden Offices

in Traditional Highland Bothy Style
A Bothy is a basic shelter, usually left unlocked and available for anyone to use free of charge. It was also a term for basic accommodation, usually for gardeners or other workers on an estate. Bothies are found in remote mountainous areas of Scotland, Northern England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Tree-ditions Bothy

The Tree-ditions Bothy is inspired by the mountain shelters used as temporary dwellings by herders, gamekeepers and adventurers in remote areas of Scotland, Northern England, Ireland and Wales for centuries. Now, your unique garden room or office can take inspiration from the tradition, offering bothy like places to spend time relaxing or working in your garden   At Tree-ditions in Scotland, we love the outdoors and enjoy making the most of our outdoor space and time – often in spite of the Scottish weather!

Inspired by the welcoming, protective Bothies common across our countryside, we added a new `service to our range to help people create their own outdoor space with Garden Bothy styled Garden Rooms or Offices.

We want people to be enjoying their outdoor space at its best for as long as possible, so our Garden Room Bothies, are all built to last.

Planning requirements

Permitted development rights allow for the carrying out of works within the rear curtilage of a dwelling house. It is intended to apply to garden room development.  In summary, the effect of limitations is that:
■ the development is generally located in the rear
■ the height of the resulting structure is not higher than 3 metres
■ at least half the curtilage remains undeveloped
These permitted development rights do not apply in conservation areas or within the curtilage of a listed building. A building warrant from the local authority may be required but we will advise and assist you fully in that process

Dave built a bothy for me, based on a basic design idea and a vague sketch. There were no building plans, but he created a brilliant garden bothy using larch planks and freshly cut natural-shaped oak posts. All the twists and turns of the natural shapes add fantastic character. With a stove and a green roof it is the best place to be, year round. He was a great guy to have around as well. Funny and hard-working, and he even taught me about woodwork, using chisel's and carving. If you want a garden room that is unique, rather than boringly normal, get Dave. You won't be disappointed.
